The Prison Issue is a weapon in Schism. It is an ordinary pistol that every player is given at the start of each run. It shoots a single bullet each time it is fired, and is intended for use as a sidearm in the early game.

Tips

  • The Prison Issue is weak and not usually carried to the late game. Replacing this weapon is highly recommended, as the new weapon can still contribute to the player's power with weapon mods.
  • Some weapons, such as the Heartbreak and Missile Command, can become difficult or near impossible to use effectively in certain situations. The Prison Issue is a reliable sidearm for taking out erratic enemies and bosses in such scenarios.
  • If your first rewards center contains weak and undesirable weapons, you may use the Prison Issue in the meantime until you find a better weapon.
  • The achievement 'All I Need' requires the player to defeat the final boss and enter the victory portal without ever picking up another weapon, besides the starting Prison Issue. Improving stats and adding mods to this weapon during an attempt for the achievement is highly recommended.

Notes

  • Despite being a disposable starting weapon, the Prison Issue can still be modified by the merchants at the gun shop.
  • The Prison Issue can very rarely appear as a weapon choice in reward centers.

Trivia

  • The weapon's name, 'Prison Issue', directly references the prisoner's time behind bars in the story. It is likely that they were given this weapon as a low-budget self-defense firearm by their superiors, for use in their mission to find the Schismatic Engine.
