Greed God

From Schism Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Greed God is an available god to worship in Schism. You can select this god in the temple, either via the holy machine, or by using an altar in the first floor.

This god is themed around accumulating wealth, and becoming more powerful as the player carries more gold. The player starts with 15 gold, and gains faith and XP after clearing combat rooms equal to half of their current total gold. The starting active relic is Mint Psy.

For every combat room cleared, the player must pay a tithe of 1 gold to the god, which happens automatically. If the player is bankrupt with zero gold, then on room clear, they become afflicted with a random disease of varying severity and duration. Care must be taken so that their total gold never reaches zero, lest they become riddled with diseases.

Faith, XP & Favor

Greed god breakdown
Breakdown of which points go towards what levels when worshipping the Greed god at 0 FAI.
Total Gold Vs. FAI for Faith/XP
Gold/FAI 0 FAI 1 FAI 2 FAI 3 FAI 4 FAI 10 FAI
Gold
= 10
5 7.5 10 12.5 15 30
Gold
= 20
10 15 20 25 30 60
Gold
= 50
25 37.5 50 62.5 75 150
Gold
= 100
50 75 100 125 150 300
Gold
= 200
100 150 200 250 300 600

Faith/XP Gained = (Total Gold + (Total Gold x (FAI / 2)) / 2

On clearing a hostile room, the gold in the player's inventory is counted and faith/XP is given according to the total amount of gold, at a 2:1 ratio. This calculation happens before the Greed god takes 1 gold from the player. As the FAI stat rises, the player incrementally gains 50% more faith and XP every time they clear a room.

Discount for Favor
Discount/Favor Fv. 0 Fv. 1 Fv. 2 Fv. 3 Fv. 4 Fv. 5
$15 Relic $15 $14 $14 $13 $12 $12
$7 Relic $7 $6 $6 $5 $4 $4

Discount = Starting Price - (FAI x 0.66)

For each favor level, the price of relics in the shopping district goes down by about 0.66 gold. After the discount is applied, the game rounds the price to the nearest number. Values in Schism sometimes have hidden decimal points, so this is a measure to prevent the player having decimal amounts of gold after making a purchase.

God Relics

The Chaos god grants the relic Mint Psy when chosen in the temple, which is an active relic that creates a random coin when used. Additionally, every 3 favor levels, the god delivers themed relics to the player that can either increase potential wealth or reward the player for keeping high amounts of gold.

Tips

  • The Greed god's curse is easy to avoid, as long as you keep track of your gold when making purchases. It is not recommended to leave Mint Psy behind, as without it, the risk of becoming bankrupt rises significantly.
  • The Greed god's relic pool is disproportionately polluted with active relics. If you aren't planning on taking them with you, pick up Gold Psy and Bank Psy to prevent them from being delivered in the future.
  • The LCK stat is valuable, as it increases the drop rate of chests, which often give gold when opened. Chests can be used to both circumvent the bankruptcy curse and further increase faith/XP gained per room.
  • Cards that give extra gold, such as Appraisal, Fortune and Treasure are much more valuable during runs with this god. Gamble can also provide value, but the stakes are much higher.

Notes

  • The player gets cursed if the god attempts to take away gold, but there is nothing to take. If a room is cleared with 1 gold and it gets taken as tribute, the player will not get cursed.
  • Diseases can never be higher than severity 7, and can never last longer than 5 rooms.
  • Inflicted diseases from the curse will not be removed if the player gains gold and rises back from bankruptcy.
  • If a relic in the shopping district is already on sale, then the discount further reduces the price of the relic.
  • The shop discount applies to the travelling merchant event, but does not affect Gun Shops or any other events where gold is used as currency.
  • The discount also does not apply to pickups for sale in the shopping district.
  • The description of the Greed god incorrectly states that faith/XP is earned equal to one tenth of the player's gold. This has been omitted and replaced with the correct information on this page.

Trivia

  • The developer considered adding a mechanic to the Greed god in which $25 coins would have a chance to appear. However, this was deemed too strong and was cut.[1]
